Treat H7N9 and Chicken Farming Rationally

Over the past two weeks there have been a number of people infected with the lesser-known H7N9 virus in China. H7N9 is a serotype of the species influenza virus A (avian influenza virus or bird flu virus). H7 normally circulates among avian populations with some variants known to occasionally infect humans. Now patients infected with H7N9 are increasing. The exact infection source has not been detected but H7N9 has caused great damage to poultry industry especially chicken farming.

H7N9 Affects Chicken Farming
The H7N9 flu is detected in some poultry samples but the varieties of birds are wide and poultry is just a few varieties of the birds so it is not scientific to simply think the source of H7N9 flu is poultry. The direct influence is that people don’t eat chicken and kill chickens. This is unfair for farmers especially the poultry practitioners and causes unnecessary damage to chicken industry ant the whole industry chain.


Now for the chicken farming the breeders should take measures to prevent H7N9 flu. Improving chicken’s immune system is an important preventive measure. Feed is the material foundation and the main source of energy and nutrition for chicken growth and reproduction. Only the good feeds can increase the chicken’s immune system to prevent diseases. Feed pellets is ideal for raising chicken. It is produced by adopting scientific formula, mixing a variety of raw materials evenly according to a certain proportion and a series of processing. It has balanced nutrition for chicken farming. And during the pelletizing process liquid nutrition can be added to improve disease resistance. The good environment can reduce the chances that chicken are infected with H7N9 flu. The chicken feed pellets which have cylinder shape and do not produce dust are good to the living environment.

What should be Noticed When Choose Aquafeed Raw Materials?


1.You can consider amino acid as one of the raw materials first.
2. Combining with local resource, confirm the raw materials varieties within 10.
3. When select protein material, you can take lysine and methionine unit prices as purchasing standard, but not the unit price of protein.
4. Don't use soybean meal or sesame meal with burnt appearance and smell, for lots of lysine is destroyed.
5. Fish meal is the main raw material of animal protein. You must analyze its amino acid before using.
6. Avoid using meat meal in hot seasons. The fat is easy to be oxidized and cause liver disease.
7. Silkworm chrysalises are easy to be oxidized for its high oil content. Test their freshness before purchase.
8. Blood meal is suitable for extrusion and spray drying technology for its low digestibility.
9. Wheat is better than wheat middling, for it can avoid adulteration and ensure the freshness.

10. Use zeolite powder, not stone powder.
11. Choose bean oil, rapeseed oil, edible lard or chicken oil for freshwater fish feed formula. Don't choose fish oil.
12. Feather meal processed by good hydrolysis process can be added into the formula, but not exceed 3%.
13. If choose outsourcing premix, check carefully.
14. Amino acid composition coconut cake and grape cake is not so good, you'd better not use.
15. Using microcapsule amino acid is a trend in aquafeed processing. It's the key of the production effect that whether the amino acid can tolerate high temperature tempering.
16. Don't purchase or add table salt.
17. The blood-cell protein must be all-broken, or it has no value.
18. Notice the aflatoxin and other hygiene indexes when purchase peanut meal.

Raw Materials for Aquafeeds


Common basic raw materials to the manufacture of most aquafeeds are similar to those employed in the manufacture of other types of animal feeds. However, it should be noticed that aquafeeds should avoid the use of high levels of plant or vegetable fibers and carbohydrates which are poorly digested and transformed by fishes. Raw materials for aquafeeds include cereals (maize, wheat, barley, rice, oat etc.), cereal by-products (wheat flour, corn bran, wheat bran etc.), meat meal, fish meal, shrimp meal, squid meal, blood meal, poultry by-product meal, (full fat) soybean meal, other vegetable protein meals, fats and oils, vitamin and mineral premix, salt, stabilizers and binders etc.

Nowadays, pellet feed has been widely used for raising of piglets, weaned pigs, pigs, chickens, cattle, sheep, fish and other livestock.

Sinking Fish Feed Extrusion Technology


Different aquatic animals have different feeding characteristics. Take river crab and other benthonic animals for example, they are used to seek food underwater; and they often chew with slower speed. Too hard or too firm feed pellets are not suitable for them. It also should to reduce the small fragments waste during their feeding process. So, the sinking extruded feed are beneficial for them. The sinking extruded feed has many advantages: easy to soften after absorbing water, suitable for chewing, decreasing the small fragments waste, decreasing the water pollution, long water resistant time and high aging degrees.

Twin screw wet extruders are widely used in extruded feed processing. The material extrusion situation is affected by many factors. It mainly connects with the conditioning conditions, operation of the extruder and the material character. The extrusion feed buoyancy can be controlled by changing the extrusion conditions.

1.The conditioning effect is important in processing sinking extruded feed. During the process, it needs to decrease the extrusion effect and increase the conditioning effect. Moisture adding,  steam adding and enough conditioning time can make the raw materials soften and cure fully. Thus the materials can achieve better plasticity under weaker conditions in the extrusion chamber. The materials can cure continually and won’t generate bigger puffing degree. We can get the sinking extruded feed at last. Fully conditioning can improve the feed digestibility, water resistance ability and stability.

2.Processing sinking extruded feed pellets should adopts lower screw rotation speed. It can provides the effect of shear and squeeze and won’t generate over-high pressure. At last, the materials through the die holes won’t be over-extruded.

3.Chamber temperature is another important factor for material energy control. In the chamber feeding section, it’s no need to heat to ensure good delivery performance. In fusion section, you must heat to ensure the chamber temperature reach 120~150℃. It can promote the material’s curing degree and plasticity. In the end homogenize section, the chamber temperature is cooled to 40~50℃. It can decrease the cured material’s energy and the supersaturation of the moisture in materials, thus the materials can be extruded out the die holes and not over-extruded.

4.Sinking feed extrusion degree is lower than 1.3 and floating feed can achieve higher than 2-3. The pressure inside the chamber are connected with the screw configuration, material character, porosity of the die and feeding quantity. The die porosity affects the pressure of the materials inside the chamber. If the die has higher porosity, the discharging flow is bigger. We can change the quantity of die holes according to our requirements to get suitable sinking extruded feed.

Traditional hard pelleted feed has low curing degree and sinking extruded fish feed doesn’t have the problem. Extruded feed has high stability in water and no need to add binder. Extruded feeds are widely used in aquaculture instead of hard feed pellets.
