Analysis of Philippines Feed Industry

More feed mills are needed in the two Philippine island groups of Visayas and Mindanao in order to reduce the cost of meat in these regions, according to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI)

There are very few feed mills in the Visayas and Mindanao, and this is the reason meat prices there are high, according to Dr Angel Mateo, officer in charge of the Animal Feeds Standards Division (AFSD) of the BAI,

There are 1,730 feed manufacturers in the Philippines, all located in Central Luzon and the NCR, which means feed prices in Visayas and Mindanao are higher due to transport costs.

“There is a need for more feed mills in Region 8 [Eastern Visayas] and the ARMM [Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao],” said Mateo. “ARMM needs more investments for the production of halal feed or those with no pork component like lard.”

Mateo noted that investments in the feed industry are hindered by the lack of land since large areas have been converted for other purposes and not agricultural production.

1. Spraying fat after pelleting can improve the additive quantity. Improving the fat ratio according to the formula won’t influence the firmness of the feed pellets.
2. The fat spraying adopts post-addition technology, that can decrease the fat residua on the processing equipment, thus the risk of cross contamination reduces too.
3. Post-pelleting fat spraying can upgrade the feed quality. The physical property of the feed is improved. The fat has certain permeability, it can permeate into the pellets in subsequent crafts and transport process. That can reduce the scatter of feed particles and dust.

Analysis of Feed Production Market in Russia

In May of this year Russia produced 1,813 thousand tonnes of animal feed, an 8%
rise on May 2012, according to a report by the Russian Federal Static Service. Poultry feed production rose by 7% to 1,075 thousand tonnes, pigs by 18% to 569 thousand tonnes, while cattle feed production was 160 thousand tonnes, an 11% drop on May 2012.

For 11 months of the current season Russia produced 19.3 million tonnes of animal feed, which is 11% more than the same period last season. The volume of production of pig feed increased by 23% to 6.1 million tonnes. Experts predict that by the end of the current agricultural season Russia will produce more than 20 million tonnes of feed a first time record.

Feed Pellet Grading Sieve

The common feed pellet grading sieves have two types: vibrating feed pellet grading sieve and rotary feed pellet grading sieve. Grading sieve is a necessary equipment for feed pelletizing plants. I will introduce rotary feed pellet grading sieve as the following.

Rotary feed pellet grading sieve is designed to sieve and grade feed pellets or the intermediate products after secondary crushing. It can also be used to clean the raw materials for pelletizing. The grading sieve usually has two or three sieving layers, with good sieving and grading effect. Customers can choose the suitable one according to their need.

How does the Feed Pellet Rotary Grading Sieve Work? 
The screening effect is important for the quality and output of feed pellets. In order to improve the yield and reduce the power consumption during pelletizing process, some pelletizing plants use the feed pellet mills with large die diameter. Then they crush the large pellets into smaller ones. The crushed pellets should be graded to separate out the fine powder and large pellets, and get the qualified pellets at last. The rotary grading sieve is equipped with two sieve layers. The large pellets on the upper screen will be crushed again; the qualified pellets are in the inter-layer; and the powered or small particle materials under the lower screen will be pelletized again.

General Introduction to Counterflow Pellet Cooler

1. Start the air-lock device and draught fan before the cooler starting to work.
2. Adjust the level indicator position according to the yield requirement. When the yield is high, install the level indicator at top position; on the contrary, install it below.
3. When the cooler stops working, expel the material in the cooler through operating the hand switch.
4. Don’t open the observation door when the cooler runs.

Factors Affecting The Feed Pellet Hardness

The hardness of feed pellets directly affects their appearance and production property. So controlling feed pellet hardness is a problem the feed manufactures have to face. The factors affecting the hardness mainly include the feed ingredients grinding process, feed ingredients mixing, water adding and steam modulating process and post curing technology etc.

  • The pulverization fineness of feed ingredients plays the decisive role in feed pellets hardness. Generally speaking the finer the particle size the better the starch gelatinization.
  • Mixing raw materials can increase the uniformity of feed compositions with all kinds of granularity and ensure the feed pellets have basically identical hardness. 
  • Steam modulating effect directly affects the inner structure of feed pellets. Steam quality and modulating time are two main factors affecting the modulating effect. 
  • Post curing process can make the inner structure more compact and increase the stability and hardness of pelletized feeds. 
  • The technical parameters of pelletizing die such as the aperture and compression ratio significantly affect the hardness of feed pellets.
